Inspiration

Teamfight Tactics

Escape the Circus was born from high-risk decision-making, inspired by playful frustration in Teamfight Tactics. Combining chance, strategy, and risk, it lets players gamble with fate, release life's pressures, and embrace pure, exhilarating enjoyment in every moment.

Releasing Stress
During overwhelming stress, playing Las Vegas with friends revealed how dice, risk, and playful competition dissolve tension into joy. That inspired Escape the Circus, designed to give players cathartic freedom from routine through thrilling, liberating gameplay.
 Research

Las Vegas
I draw inspiration from Las Vegas' bidding and risk-taking mechanics, but expand with hidden auctions, greater freedom, and multiple victory paths, turning chance-driven play into a richer social and strategic experience.

The game is a parable of freedom and pressure: players embody trapped souls as circus animals, collecting 13 memory fragments of misfortune, sacrifice, and rebirth. Guided by fateful numbers, each must wager their destiny- escape or be consumed.

Development Process
Character Card Art

I first planned human characters inspired by tarot, but switched to animals/objects due to my drawing skills. The Magician became a dove with a hat trick, with circus-themed borders and sans-serif font.

Map test

I drafted a route, tested dotted and segmented grids, and finalized the design. Despite shortening, gameplay needs 15+ spaces, making the map appear visually dense.
